Adventures in Lim Chu Kang
the trips to the plant/fish farms at Lim Chu Kang never cease to amaze and delight me and each brings forth an entirly new and refereshing experience. this time round, there was more than one wacky encounter.
firstly, the intention behind these visits which have since become a regular event (here regular meaning a few months once la). usually, it is to purchase plants for our personal tanks, however, we went this time on a grand mission from the school authorites: we were buying plants for our RE project. why do you have to go so far then.. enduring the physical and mental suffering from the weather and the seemingly endless tar strips, just to buy some plants found in any local fish store???? because a fat friend thought it would be cheaper and he wanted to buy some rams at the same time (which we did not get to do -.-)
better still, this wonderful guide decided to stop at lane 5 when we should have stopped at lane 6 and enter by lane 6c to lane 9, which was where the farm was at. upon stopping at lane 5, he chirped "dun worry, i know how to go from here." after trudging half of lane 5, i asked" are you damn sure you know the way through lane 5?" to which he replied " er.... they all look the same leh.. i am not sure" or something along that line anyway. nvm.. josh and i gave him one chance to redeem himself.. even if we get lost, we would have our sweat to drink and the tapioca roots to eat. so onwards we walked, till at the end of the road, we found ourselves at lane 3. at this point, ken goes "ok..... i think we will have to walk back" and josh goes hysterical. "GO BACK!?!?!?!?!", he yells, all the while somehow managing to laugh at our silliness. at that point, we were all going mad. i begin to think of the headlines screaming "THREE FRIENDS GET LOST ALONG LIM CHU KANG ROAD. There is reason to believe that they are surviving on a half-eaten bag of potato chips and egg fruits found along the roadside..... "
arrrrrgggghhhh
while there were the horrible instances, there were also the quirky ones. like how we witnessed a couple making out in their car! they stoped right in the middle of the road and started kissing, stopping only when they realised that we were staring. like.. get a room man!! are they THAT sex-starved? at least go to changi or east coast beach la..i blame it all on the introduction of pornography ..lol
what was really hilarious was the way ken acted everytime a wild dog approached. he would walk to the other side of the road and say something "hurry up la, wait the dog bite you, thats why my mother say dun come here alone". i told him not to look them in the eye, otherwise the dogs would get irritated and bite our dicks off.
so finally, after all the crap and more which occurred, we found the correct route and made it to the plant farm in one piece. there, one of the hip uncles turns to ken and says "pui eh, hou bo!" which means "fat one, how are you!" hahahaha. we proceeded to choose our plants and talk to our favourite uncle, obviously the one who gives us the biggest discount and the most freebies la. he's the best man.. the last time when he realised we did not have transport home, he sent us tot he bus stop which was quite a distance away. this time, two other uncles were going home in a pick-up truck and we were offered a lift on it!!! thats mind-boggling i tell you. as we sped off on the back of the pick up truck, made comfortable by styrofoam laid on the ground, i could not help but feel like i was going off to NS on those big green trucks. and thats when ken starts to sing. i watched the landscape fall behind and curve inwards as we ascended the hill, and bid farewell to Lim Chu Kang.
next time i am there, i will be prepared with a street directory.
